Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and meet at airport. Transfer to a 4 Star hotel. Lunch in Modern Nomads restaurant. City tour, including Chinggis Khaan square in the heart of the city with views of Parliament building, Mayor’s House, Opera House, Cultural Palace and many other modern buildings. We continue our trip with a visit to Gandan Monastery. This is Mongolia’s largest and most important center of buddism, which was built in 1838. The highlight is the magnificent Migjid Janraisig Temple. Hundreds of images of the Buddha line the walls of the temple, and the centerpiece is an awe-inspiring statue of Migjid Janraisig. The 26-meter high sculpture is made of dazzling copper covered with gold. Inside the hollow statue are 334 sutras, 27 tons of medicinal herbs and over 2 million bundles of mantras. Afterwards, we will enjoy a Mongolian traditional concert. A welcome dinner will be held at the Peace Pub. Overnight in Ulaanbaatar.
After breakfast, we leave Ulaanbaatar and fly to Dalanzadgad, capital of Umnugobi province (565km, 1.20h). After landing we visit center of the city and drive to the Dream Gobi ger lodge, located 60km from Dalanzadgad (40min by bus). Lunch is at the lodge restaurant. After lunch, we watch a short movie about Bayanzag and we drive to Bayanzag. Bayanzag is more commonly known as the Flaming Cliffs, a name penned by the paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews. First excavated in 1922, it is renowned worldwide for the number of dinosaur bones and eggs found in the area. Here we enjoy a bit of light trekking among the Flaming Cliffs. Dinner and overnight at the ger lodge.
After breakfast, we drive to Khongor Sand Dunes (150km, 4h), the largest and most beautiful sand dunes in Mongolia. Take photos, walk, or take a camel ride through the sand dunes and enjoy the Mongolian Gobi Desert. Have lunch at a camp near Khongor sand dunes. After lunch, we visit a camel breeder’s family to experience local people’s daily life. Dinner and overnight at ger camp.
After breakfast, we drive Bulgan soum. On the way we visit a secondary school and Dal brigad. Have lunch at the Dream Gobi lodge. The remainder of the day free for leisure. Dinner and overnight at the ger lodge.
Today we explore Yol Valley (68km). We travel across the Gobi Desert to the Gurvan SaiKhan Mountains and enter this deep gorge in the Mongolian National Park. We will hike here amid impressive mountain scenery and learn about this area’s endemic plant and wildlife, including the valley’s namesake, the Lammergeier vulture. One of the valley’s most striking sights is glacial ice that extends six miles down the gorge in the winter, some of which often lingers through September or even year-round. Lunch is at the lodge restaurant. This afternoon we visit horse breeder’s family to experience local people’s daily life. Dinner and overnight at the ger lodge.
After breakfast we drive to Dalanzadgad to take a flight to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to the hotel. Lunch is at the Nomads restaurant. After lunch, we visit Bogd Khaan Palace Museum. The complex was built between 1893 and 1903 and named, “The Temple of Developing Wisdom” and dedicated to the 8th Bogd King Javzandamba, the head of the Mongolian religion. On April 1, 1926, after Bogd Khaan’s death due to illness in 1924, a state museum office was created and it was decided to transmit the remaining property of the Bogd Khaan to public museum ownership. It was converted to a museum building, displaying objects of historical and artistic value, religious idols, the royal collection of stuffed animals, and other items which had been owned or used by the Bogd Khaan. Now the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum consists of seven Summer Prayer temples and the Winter Palace, which was built in the European style. After visitin Bogd Khaan museum, we shop at Gobi Cashmere Factory Outlet and the State Department Store. Enjoy a farewell dinner at the Peace Pub. Overnight in Ulaanbaatar.
After breakfast, we drive to the airport for International departure.
